EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named juniors David Roth (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) and Shannon Schneeman (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for the first week of the 2006-07 NU athletic season.
Roth scored a goal and tallied an assist over the weekend to help lead Northwestern to a 2-0 start to the 2006 season. Roth assisted on Daniel Chille's game-winner Friday in a 2-1 NU victory over Hofstra before netting the only score of the match with a second-half strike Sunday against Dayton.
After setting the Big Ten single-season record for assists with 14 as a freshman, Roth's assist Friday leaves him just one behind teammate Gerardo Alvarez's Northwestern career record of 22.
Schneeman scored goals in each of Northwestern's first two matches of the season. Schneeman tallied the Wildcats' first goal of the year in a 2-1 win Friday at DePaul before netting Northwestern's lone score Sunday in a 2-1 overtime loss to Kentucky at the Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex.
Against DePaul, the Wildcats earned 16 corners to the Blue Demons' none, and Schneeman took all 16 of those corner kicks for Northwestern.
