EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University has announced baseball's Dan Brauer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) and softball's Courtnay Foster (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuro) have been named Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.

After Brauer, a junior, pitched one of his best games as a collegiate pitcher, he delivered at the plate as well in NU's 9-8 win Sunday over Minnesota. In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, he threw a complete-game, four-hit shutout, striking out a season-high 10. He allowed only two runners to reach third base, shutting down an offense that totaled 15 hits in the first game of the series. At the plate in game four, Brauer was 2-for-2 with a three-run home run in the first inning. He walked twice and doubled in his other at bat. He scored three times in NU's 9-8 win. The AOW award is the seventh of Brauer's career.

Foster earned the honor after she recorded a 2-0 record and a 0.50 ERA last week, while helping the Wildcats claim their first Big Ten regular-season title since 1987. Against DePaul, she held the Blue Demons to just three hits, while striking out seven for the 3-1 win. She then pitched a gem in her final career regular-season outing, throwing a three-hit shutout, while fanning nine batters at Illinois to pick up her 20th win of the season. Foster's nine K's give her 204 on the year, making her just the second Wildcat to strike out 200 batters in all four seasons at Northwestern. The AOW award is the fifth of her career.
