EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's ninth-ranked women's tennis team has earned a No. 11 seed in the upcoming NCAA Women's Tennis Championships and will begin the tournament by hosting Illinois-Chicago, No. 17 Harvard and No. 43 Purdue in the Regional Championship. This is the sixth-straight season the 'Cats will host the regional tournament, which is slated for Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13 at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.

NU will kick off regional action by facing area-foe Illinois-Chicago at 10 a.m. Friday, May 12. The Flames (13-10, 10-0) enter the NCAA Championships for the eighth-straight year. UIC went a perfect 10-0 versus Horizon League opponents this season en route to its 10th-consecutive conference title.

The Wildcats faced both Harvard and Purdue in the regular season, taking wins over both teams. The 'Cats took a 4-3 victory over the Crimson in Evanston on February 17 and topped Purdue 6-1 on April 16 in West Lafayette, Ind. NU also beat Purdue 4-0 in last weekend's Big Ten Championship.

The Wildcats are one of five Big Ten teams -- Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern and Purdue -- to make the field of 64. With its No. 11 seed, NU enters the tournament as the only seeded Big Ten team.
