BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Northwestern junior Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) became the Wildcats' first women's golfer to claim a Big Ten Conference individual title in the program's 14-year history on Sunday.

Kim, who set the the league's 36-hole record (4-under 140) Friday and equaled the 54-hole mark Saturday, carded a 5-over 77 to finish with a 3-over 291 (68-72-74-77) on a rainy, windy day at the IU Golf Course. She finished one stroke in front of a trio of players -- Sara Brown (Michigan State), Carling Coffing (Ohio State) and Maria Hernandez (Purdue).

"It feels great," said Kim, who was named the All-Big Ten second team. "I've been looking for a win for awhile, and it feels nice to finally get one; and I got the big one. It counts for a lot, and it really does feel good."

"I think the difference this week with Alice is she played with a calm sense of confidence," said head coach Chris Regenberg. "I think she's been working on that for some time, and really was building up to this tournament. She stayed so calm, and these were trying conditions. These greens can get to you. She just really kept her head on straight, believed in herself and ultimately that's what worked."

As a team, the Wildcats moved up a spot and placed fifth (60-over 1212) behind team champion Purdue (+27), Ohio State (+33), Michigan State (+39) and Michigan (+50).

Freshman Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) nearly finished in the top 20 of her first conference event. She carded a 19-over 307 (74-77-76-80) and placed 22nd. Sophomore Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) finished 30th with a 22-over 310 (79-79-73-79).

Sophomore Justina Yu (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) moved up to 47th with a 6-over 78 on Sunday. She finished her first tourney of the year with a 30-over 318 (77-84-79-78). Junior Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) was 54th with a 35-over 323 (78-75-85-85). Sophomore Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), who was unable to participate in the first two rounds due to illness, had rounds of 79 and 76 on Saturday and Sunday.

The Wildcats will now find out their NCAA fate Monday afternoon. Northwestern is seeking its fifth regional berth in the last six years.
