Valpo put up a pair of first-inning runs off Wildcat starter Chris Davidson (Huntington Woods, Mich./Berkley). A pair of singles were aided by a base-on-balls in the inning.

The Crusaders extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning when a two-out double scored a runner from first.

A two-run home run off Wildcat reliever Ryan Myers (Lake Villa, Ill./Carmel) and an RBI single made the score 6-0 in favor of Valparaiso in the top of the sixth inning.

NU answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on Mule's two-RBI double down the left-field line. Shortstop Tommy Finn (Valparaiso, Ind./Andrean) and second baseman Jake Owens (Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli) scored on the play. Finn reached on an error and Owens singled.

Valpo scored a single run in the seventh inning on an RBI single off freshman reliever Eric Binder (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale Central).
