EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has announced women's tennis' Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) and baseball's Caleb Fields (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) have been named Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Rose, the nation's 44th-ranked singles player, continued her stellar rookie campaign last week with three singles wins, including victories at No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 33 Iowa. Rose went 6-0 overall with two victories at No. 1 singles, one at No. 2 singles and three at No. 2 doubles. In singles, Rose took wins over two ranked opponents on the week, beating Iowa's 37th-ranked Meg Racette and Notre Dame's 73rd-ranked Christian Thompson. Rose has won 23-straight singles matches and is just five wins shy of tying NU's school record of 28-straight wins. This is her first career Athlete of the Week laurel.
Even though Northwestern's baseball team still has one game to play Monday afternoon against Indiana, junior third baseman Fields is swinging a hot bat. Through three games, Fields is hitting .400 (4-for-10) with five RBI. The Illinois native entered the weekend with a total of three total RBI. He has cracked a double and recorded a stolen base. In NU's 12-1 victory on Sunday, he went 3-for-3 with three RBI. This is the first Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honor of Fields' career.
