EVANSTON, Ill. -- True Freshman Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) has been named Big Ten Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. Rose, the nation's 36th-ranked singles player, is 14-0 this season in dual matches and is riding an 18-match winning streak. The conference honor is the first of her career.
Rose earns the honor after she posted a perfect 6-0 record last week in helping the Wildcats to three-consecutive shutout victories. She took each of her singles matches in straight sets, one in 6-0, 6-0 fashion, and lost only four total games. With the three singles victories, Rose stands at 26-6 overall in her inaugural season of college tennis.
Rose also paired up with senior Feriel Esseghir to go 3-0 on the week at No. 2 doubles. The duo won the decisive match to secure the doubles point for Northwestern in the win against Michigan State, and improved its overall record to 10-3. The two have won nine of their last 10 doubles matches, including the last four.
