EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University has announced wrestling's Jake Herbert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and women's swimming & diving's Chelsea Davis (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) have been named Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Herbert earns the honor after he went 4-1 to claim a career-best second place at the 2006 NCAA Wrestling Championships this past weekend. Herbert tallied pins over his first two opponents in a combined 1:04 before winning his next two decisions to advance to the title bout and earn his second-straight All-America honor. Herbert finishes the season with 36 wins--good for ninth on NU's all-time single-season wins list. He becomes the 11th NU wrestler to garner multiple All-America accolades. This is the fifth Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week award of Herbert's career.
Davis, a freshman diver, received the laurel after she became the first Wildcat diver to earn All-America accolades, finishing 14th on the 1-meter board at the NCAA Championships. She narrowly missed the finals in the 3-meter event, taking 18th and helping Northwestern to a 41st-place finish. The accolade is the third of Davis' career.
