EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has announced men's swimming & diving's Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and women's golf's Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) have been named this week's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Grevers garners the accolade after he won five Big Ten championships, set two school records and one Big Ten mark en route to being named the conference's Co-Swimmer of the Year at the Big Ten Championships over the weekend. Grevers defended his titles in the 50 free and 100 back, making him the first swimmer in Big Ten history to win those two events three years in a row. He also captured the 100 free for the second time in his career, in addition to swimming on the first-place 200 free and 400 medley relays at the meet. The accolade is the ninth of Grevers' career.
Kim earns the distinction after she finished in a three-way tie for fifth place with a 7-over 223 (70-74-79) and was named the Big Ten's Golfer of the Week for her performance at the Central District Classic. Her first-round 70 was one of the best 18-holes in Northwestern golf history and she led Northwestern to a ninth-place finish. This is Kim's second-career Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week award.
