EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named men's basketball senior Vedran Vukusic (Split, Croatia/Medical) and women's fencing junior Jessica Florendo (Forest Hills, N.Y./The Dwight School) its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.

Vukusic averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 rebounds as Northwestern won two home games last week. In the victory over No. 18 Iowa, Vukusic carried the team on his shoulders, most notably in the second half in which he scored 15 of his game-high 26 points. He was 9-of-16 from the field with five three-pointers and a perfect 3-of-3 from the FT line. He added a season-high eight rebounds.

He made the decisive three-point play with 29 seconds left to give NU a 49-48 lead and iced the game with two free throws. He never left the floor, playing every minute for the sixth time this season.

In a weekend that saw total domination by the Northwestern women's fencing team, foilist Florendo stood out above the rest. She was a perfect 20-0 in seven duals, helping the Wildcats to a perfect 8-0 weekend. Florendo helped the foil team win an unprecedented 72 wins compared to zero losses.

Overall, NU's three weapons were 182-7. The team is 35-4 and ranked seventh in the country.
