EVANSTON, Ill. -- Former Northwestern golfer Tom Johnson, a 2004 graduate, has earned his PGA Tour card after placing eighth Monday at the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament at the PGA West Stadium Course in La Quinta, Calif.
The top 40 finishers at the Tournament, who played a grinding 108 holes of golf, earned PGA cards for 2007. Johnson fired a 5-under 67 on Monday to finish a strong 13-under (72-68-67-74-71-67=419) for the six rounds. He finished in a five-way tie for eighth place.
For those who have never played on the PGA Tour, successfully making it through Q-School is like a dream. Johnson is one of those players.
"It doesn't seem real," he said.
