No purchase is necessary to submit a nomination for the UPS TOP CAT Program and your responses to any survey questions will not affect your nominee's chances.

How to Participate?
To participate, you must obtain a nomination form at www.NUsports.com. Nomination forms will be available beginning November 1, 2006. The deadline for submitting nomination forms is 11:59 pm CT on January 31, 2007. However, submit the nomination forms early as the first UPS TOP CAT Recipient will be selected on or about December 20, 2006.

Nomination forms will also be distributed via e-mail to selected Northwestern University faculty and staff. Complete in full the nomination form by providing all requested information and a brief description of:

  • The reason for your nomination of that person if not previously covered

Who Is Eligible to be Nominated?
Persons who are full-time Northwestern University employees and who are 18 years of age or older at the time of nomination are eligible to be nominated for recognition as the UPS TOP CAT.

Who Can Submit Nominations?
Any person who is a full-time Northwestern University employee or Northwestern University student can submit a nomination form.

How Will the Winners Be Selected?
Eight (8) nominees will be selected as UPS TOP CAT recipients - one recipient for each of the eight (8) Northwestern University Big Ten conference home games.

Three (3) Northwestern University Athletics department representatives and a Northwestern University Administration office representative will select the overall TOP CAT recipients from among the eligible nominees based on

  • The number of nominations that person receives and...
  • The description of excellence that nominee has demonstrated as indicated on the nominations forms for that nominee.

One grand prize recipient will be selected from among the eight (8) UPS TOP CAT recipients based on the same judging criteria used to determine the UPS TOP CAT recipients (ranked by largest number of nominations and strongest written case as determined by the 3 athletic department representatives and 1 university administration representative).

Each nominee selected as a UPS TOP CAT recipient will be notified on or about one week before the home Big Ten men's basketball game for which that recipient has been designated as the UPS TOP CAT recipient.

In the event a selected nominee cannot be contacted or declines the TOP CAT recognition, an alternate recipient may be chosen by the selection committee. The selection committee, in its discretion, will select the Northwestern game at which each UPS TOP CAT recipient will receive his or her prize and recognition.

What do the UPS TOP CAT recipients receive?
Each UPS TOP CAT recipient will receive:

  • A pair of tickets (value $200) to the Northwestern University Men's basketball game for which that nominee will be recognized as the UPS TOP CAT recipient
  • A parking pass for that game
  • Will be recognized with a live pre-game presentation of a basketball signed by Coach Bill Carmody prior to the game.

The grand prize recipient will be recognized and awarded his or her prize at the final Big Ten Northwestern men's home game. The recognition and prize award are non-transferable to any other person, including relatives or friends.

In addition to the tickets, parking pass, signed basketball and on-court recognition, the recipient of the grand prize will be presented by Northwestern University on behalf of UPS with a $2,500 scholarship that shall be made payable to that grand prize recipient's Northwestern University department.
