'Cats Conclude Dominant Weekend at Bronco Invite

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Northwestern finished its weekend at the Bronco Invite Sunday by winning five of six singles flights. The 'Cats won two of three doubles flights Saturday. Freshmen Samantha Murray (Altrincham, Eng./Altrincham Grammar), Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and Suzie Matzenauer (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine) all won their final matches in two sets. Sophomores Keri Robison (Decatur, Ill./Keystone National) and Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) also won singles finals Sunday.
Murray completed a dominant performance by topping Western Michigan's Carrie Jeanmaire in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. She won her semifinal match on Saturday in two sets, 6-1, 6-2. Robison also won in convincing fashion, downing Wisconsin's Elizabeth Carpenter, 6-1, 6-0. She also won her semifinal match in two sets. Ghazal did not drop a set either as she defeated Jessica Long of Virginia Tech, 6-0, 6-4. Lui cruised past Sigrid Fischer of Indiana, 6-4, 6-1, while Matzenauer bested Morgan Tuttle from Wisconsin, 6-1, 6-3.
Junior Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) fell in her final to Lindsey Stuckey of Indiana, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-4.
In Saturday's doubles finals the teams of Matzenauer and Ghazal, as well as Lui and Murray won doubles flights.
The event concludes Northwestern's fall season. The Wildcats return to action Jan. 19 at the Seminole Invitational.
