King Leads 'Cats at NCAA Midwest Regional Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, -- Led by sophomore Allison King (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) the Wildcats placed 17th at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by the University of Minnesota.
For the fourth time in as many races, King paced the 'Cats, and with her overall time of 22:30:77, she placed 55th in the 171-runner field. Junior Celia Franklin, who has been among the Wildcats' most consistent runners, finished behind King with a time of 23:28:57. Right behind King was sophomore Hilary Forman (Prairie Village, Kan./Pembroke), who has been in the NU top-three all season long. She clocked a time of 23:30:37.
Sophomore Carly Brown (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead) finished fourth for the Wildcats with a time of 23:55:22 and she was followed by freshman Diana Burk (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac), who has made an impact late in her freshman campaign. She timed a 24:11:67 on the 6K course.
Freshmen Paulina Garcia (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) and Britta Helwig (Chicago, Ill./Luther North) rounded out the 'Cats' seven runners.
The 2006 campaign came to an end in Minneapolis, but the Wildcats were led all season by their sophomores and freshmen. Newcomers Garcia, Helwig and Burk have been among the top runners for Northwestern all season, while sophomores Brown, Forman and King, along with junior Franklin have led the way.
