The Wildcats held their annual Volleyball Scout Night at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Friday, September 29 with 270 scouts, scout leaders and family members in attendance. The scouts watched as the 'Cats defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 3-0 for their first Big Ten victory of the season.

Before the match, over 150 scouts, scout leaders and family members gathered in Trienens Hall (the indoor football facility) to meet and interact with players from the Women's Basketball Team. Sara Stutz, A.J. Glasauer, Kristin Cartwright, Beth Marshall and Lakhiyia Hicks spoke to those in attendance about sportsmanship, the importance of academics and doing well in school and fielded several questions from the scouts. The scouts then learned about and participated in Wildcat conditioning drills that the players do to stretch out and stay in shape. A group picture was taken with the players and scouts before heading into Welsh-Ryan to watch the volleyball match.

Scouts lined the court to greet the 'Cats as they were introduced for starting introductions. Many participated in the halftime serving contest and everyone was invited to meet their favorite players after the match during the Wildcat Volleyball Autograph Session. A great time was had by all! Said Patti Solem, scout leader of Brownie Troop 614, "Thanks for such a fun event last night! The Scouts had a great time, and the Northwestern women (both basketball and volleyball) did a wonderful job. They sent a great message to the kids with their upbeat presentation, positive attitudes about education and life and great performance on the court!"

Upcoming Scout Nights include October 8 at Women's Soccer when the 'Cats take on Michigan at 1:00 p.m. and January 21 at Women's Basketball when the 'Cats battle Wisconsin at 2:00 p.m.

Along with Scout Nights, the Wildcats participate in many different activities in the community. One of them is 'Cats in Your Classroom. 'Cats in Your Classroom is a program where Northwestern student-athletes will come to your classroom to talk about sports, fitness, nutrition and a variety of other subjects while bringing pizza from Domino's. If you would like the Wildcats to stop by your classroom (8th grade and under only), e-mail wildcatmarketing@northwestern.edu.
