EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will race against some of the best teams in the country at the 2006 Big Ten Championships Sunday as four Big Ten teams are ranked in the top-10 nationally. The women's 6K meet begins at 9:45 a.m.
The Wildcats placed 10th in the Open Race at the Pre-National Invitational two weeks ago. Sophomore Allison King (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) finished 5th among teams exclusively in the open race with a time of 21:51. King was also the high-finisher for Northwestern at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational.
Another runner for the 'Cats who has been a top-finisher for Northwestern is junior Celia Franklin (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier). Franklin won the 6K Chuck Carroll Invitational to start the season and then was the 'Cats' highest finisher en route to a Northwestern team title at the Toledo Invitational.
Sophomore Hilary Forman (Prairie Village, Kan./Pembroke) has been one of the most consistent Wildcats in 2006. Forman finished behind King at the Pre-National Invitational and the Loyola Lakefront Invitational. She finished third for the 'Cats behind King and Franklin at the Toledo Invitational.
Freshman have made major contributions for the 'Cats in their first seasons. Paulina Garcia (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) and Britta Helwig (Chicago, Ill./Luther North) have led the way.
The 6K Big Ten Championships begin at 9:45 a.m. Sunday on the IU Cross Country Course.
