Wildcats Continue Play at ITA Midwest Regional Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich -- Three Wildcat doubles pairs advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships Friday hosted by Michigan State University. The winning duos took a combined 48 of the 60 total games played in their respective matches. The pair of sophomore Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) won their first two matches, 8-3 and 8-0.
Prousis and Rose defeated the par of Malmberg and Seaton from Minnesota in their first round match, 8-3. They returned to the court and blanked Akron's Gombera and Langworthy, 8-0.
The pair of Suzie Matzenauer (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine) and Keri Robison (Decatur, Ill./Keystone, National) took down Eastern Illinois' Sadisharan/Mambetova, 8-3 in the first round. They cruised past Butler's Hawes/Caperson in the second round, 8-1.
Freshman Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrhincham Grammar) and junior Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) overcame Northern Illinois' Asvaje and Umenura in the first round, 8-4. They topped Michigan State's Andrews/Milosavijevic to advance to the round of 16, 8-1.
Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) won their first round match over Purdue's Voelker and Vaez, 8-5, but fell to Notre Dame's Potta/Reily in the second round, 9-7.
"It was a long day with a lot of tennis," head coach Claire Pollard said. "We saw a lot of good things and some things we need to work on. Tomorrow is another long day and hopefully we'll have similar success to what we did today."
Seven Wildcats will take to the court Saturday in the main singles draw.
