EVANSTON, Ill. -- Led by defending singles and doubles champion Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), the Wildcats are set to begin play Thursday at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Michigan State University. Northwestern has swept the singles and doubles the past two years at the annual tournament.

Junior Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) begins play Thursday in the singles qualifying draw. Four Wildcat doubles teams take to the court in the main doubles draw beginning Friday and seven 'Cats will participate in the main singles draw starting Saturday.

The 'Cats dominated the Wildcat Invitational held in Evanston two weeks ago, winning two singles flights and both doubles flights. Head coach Claire Pollard's newcomers had impressive performances. In singles, sophomore Keri Robison (Decatur, Ill./Keystone National) and freshman Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar) won their respective flights while the pairs of Conill, teamed with freshman Suzie Matzenauer (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine), and sophomore Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) paired with Murray won doubles.

"Practice has been very productive this week and we are excited to see all of our competition in the Midwest," Pollard said. "We are looking forward to our great practice habits transferring into great performances this weekend."

Defending NCAA doubles champion Prousis will see her first doubles action the year with sophomore Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day).
