EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University has announced the Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week. Men's basketball's Vedran Vukusic and women's swimming & diving's Katie Braun earn this week's honors.
Vukusic earns the honor for the third time this year after averaging 22.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game as the Wildcats picked up wins at home over Purdue and on the road at Minnesota last week. In a 66-53 victory over the Boilermakers Wednesday, he finished the game tying a season high with 28 points, including 20 in the first half. Vukusic then led all players with 17 points, while also tallying seven rebounds and two blocks in a 57-49 road victory over Minnesota. The senior forward finished the week shooting 64 percent from the field (16-of-25), 5-of-9 from three-point range (.556) and 8-of-9 from the free throw line (.889). Vukusic currently leads the Big Ten in scoring with 21.8 points per game.
Braun garners the accolade after she won won three individual events at the Wildcats' dual against No. 16 Tennessee Saturday. Braun captured the 100 and 200 fly and the 400 IM, swimming an NCAA 'B' standard time in the 200 fly (2:01.34).
