Northwestern Names Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Ifeoma Okonkwo (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak) of women's basketball and Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbrügge) of men's tennis its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Okonkwo led Northwestern with a game-high 29 points Thursday at Michigan to propel the Wildcats to a 77-57 win over the Wolverines. Okonkwo was 8-of-12 from the field and 13-of-14 from the line, tying her for fifth on NU's single-game free throws made list and eighth in the 'Cats single-game free throw percentage ranking.
Sunday at No. 8 Purdue, Okonkwo knocked down 17 more points in helping Northwestern score 63 points and become the first Big Ten team this season to score more than 60 on the league-leading Boilermakers.
Tempke went 2-0 in singles competition this weekend by beating a pair of top-15 players. Tempke began the weekend by upsetting North Carolina's fifth-ranked singles player Raian Luchici 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9) at No. 1 singles.
Two days later, Tempke met Wake Forest's 11th-ranked Todd Paul. While Paul took the first set, Tempke stormed back to take the last two sets and win the match 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. Tempke is now 11-6 in singles this season, including a 5-2 mark in dual matches.
