NU Faces UW-Milwaukee In Nonconference Matchup

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wildcats take a timeout from conference action Wednesday, hosting UW-Milwaukee in a 7:05 p.m. tip at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Panthers enter the game with an 8-7, 4-1 mark after defeating Horizon League foe Cleveland State, 68-53 on Saturday. Northwestern is coming off an 80-48 loss to Iowa on Sunday at home. NU was led by freshman Lauren Roberts who scored a career-high 10 points. Sophomore point guard Nadia Bibbs recorded a career-high eight rebounds.

Last Time Out
Northwestern dropped a 80-48 decision to Iowa Sunday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Wildcats (4-12, 0-6) were led by freshman Lauren Roberts who pulled down a career-high 10 points in 21 minutes.

Sophomore guard Nadia Bibbs recorded a career-and team-high eight rebounds and dished out seven assists. Freshman Erin Dickerson hit 3-of-5 treys to record nine points while Sara Stutz turned in a solid performance with eight points, three assists and three rebounds.

Iowa jumped out to an early 12-point lead at the 14-minute mark and continued to build the difference throughout the first half, entering the break with a 36-20 advantage.

Roberts led NU in the second half, scoring eight of her 10 points during the last stanza.

Northwestern's defense caused 18 Hawkeye turnovers. The Wildcats outscored Iowa in fast break points, 9-8, and second-chance baskets, 8-5.

About the Panthers
With a 68-53 win over Cleveland State, Milwaukee has won three-straight games and are above .500 for the first time this season (8-7). Defense has been the key, as their last three opponents have combined to shoot just 36.4 percent from the field, 29.3 on three-point tries and have averaged just 57.7 points per game.

The Panthers are led by freshman Traci Edwards who leads the team in scoring and the league in rebounding. She has posted double-doubles in each of her last four games and has eight on the year. The 6-2 center is scoring 16.3 points and grabbing 9.3 rebounds per game. She is also shooting 59.7 percent from the field to lead the league and rank among the top-20 nationally.

The Series
Wednesday's game will be the sixth meeting between the two teams, with Northwestern holding a 3-2 edge. The last time the Panthers and Wildcats met, UW-M came out on top, winning a 74-60 decision last season at Milwaukee. Melissa Miller pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and dumped in eight points. After Wednesday's game, the Panthers host Illinois-Chicago, an opponent Northwestern defeated 81-78 earlier this season. Other common opponents to both teams are Iowa, DePaul and Wisconsin, all of which defeated Northwestern and UW-Milwaukee.
