EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern dropped a 80-48 decision to Iowa Sunday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Wildcats (4-12, 0-6) were led by freshman Lauren Roberts (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) who pulled down a career-high 10 points in 21 minutes.
"It would have been okay to lose that game with the way we played the first half," head coach Beth Combs said. "They had the lead, but we were doing all the small things. But in the second half, we stopped doing the little things. Iowa is a great team."
Sophomore guard Nadia Bibbs (Chicago, Ill./Hillcrest) recorded a career-and team-high eight rebounds and dished out seven assists. Freshman Erin Dickerson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) hit 3-of-5 treys to record nine points while Sara Stutz (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) turned in a solid performance with eight points, three assists and three rebounds.
Iowa jumped out to an early 12-point lead at the 14-minute mark and continued to build the difference throughout the first half, entering the break with a 36-20 advantage.
Roberts led NU in the second half, scoring eight of her 10 points during the last stanza.
Northwestern's defense caused 18 Hawkeye turnovers. The Wildcats outscored Iowa in fast break points, 9-8, and second-chance baskets, 8-5.
Northwestern is next in action on Wednesday in a midweek nonconference contest against UW-Milwaukee at 7 p.m. in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
