EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Joel Howells (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) and Jeanette Lorme (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus) have been named the Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Howells booted a school-record five field goals and equaled Northwestern's single-game scoring record for place-kickers with 17 points in Saturday's game vs. Penn State. Howells converted kicks of 20, 25, 42, 46 and 25 yards, with his final kick giving the Wildcats a 29-27 lead with 2:10 left in the game. Howells now ranks 16th nationally in field goals made per game (1.75 per contest).
Lorme influenced the outcome in every Wildcat match this week, recording a goal and three assists in NU's 1-1-1 week. On Tuesday against Valparaiso, the midfielder dished out both assists in the Wildcats' 2-0 shutout. Lorme continued to set up her teammates in the conference opener at Illinois Friday night, hitting fellow freshman Jenny Dunn for one Northwestern's two goals. On Sunday at Iowa City, Lorme took it upon herself to provide offense, registering one of the two goals scored in a 2-2 draw versus the Hawkeyes.
