BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- On a rainy and windy Sunday, Northwestern climbed two places in the Lady Northern's final round and finished seventh at this year's annual fall event. The 12 teams were forced to battle through remnants of Hurricane Rita, and there was even a 25-minute delay while greens were cleared of standing water.
The Wildcats, playing in their second event of the year, fired a 17-over 305 in the final round to overtake Illinois State and Iowa and finish just a stroke back of sixth-place Michigan.
Purdue won the event by 20 strokes over Michigan State and 27 ahead of Penn State.
Northwestern's trio of Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) and Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) placed 21st, 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Scholten and Hong both carded 4-over 76's on Sunday to finish a respective 11-over (77-74-76=227) and 12-over (76-76-76=228) for the 54 holes. Kim finished 13-over (78-74-77=229).
The Wildcats' other three golfers -- junior Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex School) and sophomores Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) -- all finished with 20-over 236's. They were tied for 47th place.
