EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wildcats enter this weekend's competition at the renown Roy Griak Invitational with the mantra of nothing to lose. NU, coming off a first-place finish at the Midwest Open last weekend, will compete against some of the nation's top runners on Saturday in Minneapolis.
The Griak, hosted by the University of Minnesota, features about 40 teams, 15 of which are ranked in the top 30 in the country. This year's field is expected to be the largest in the 20-year history of the event.
"This is a very good opportunity to compete against top competition," said head coach Amy Tush. "We have a lot of new faces, and this is a new experience for the squad overall."
Only two of the nine Wildcats competing this weekend- sophomore Marie Grabinski and Mallory O'Niel-- have run the course, and only Grabinski has run in the Griak.
"Our biggest goal is to run as a team, compete the whole race and not to settle," said Tush. "We need to pull some surges and bring down that gap between the 1 and 5 split. It will be a new experience, but I am optimistic about the outcome."
The 6K race is set to begin at 12:05.
