Wildcats Complete First Day at Gator Fall Invitational

Gainesville, Fla. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team kicked off the 2005-06 season by going 3-0 in doubles competition and 2-2 in singles play during the first day of the 2005 Gator Fall Classic.
Northwestern opened the season by going undefeated in doubles play. The team of Feriel Esseghir (Sarasota, Fla./Brickhouse Academy) and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) defeated Florida International's Egle Petrauskaite and Paula Zabala, 8-5.
Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) and Cristelle Grier (Epson, England/Putney) followed that performance by giving the 'Cats an 8-5 win over Nikkita Fountain and Monika Dancevic of Miami.
The Wildcats wrapped up doubles play when Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) topped FIU's Bruna Discordia and Courtney Jonson, 8-5.
In singles action, the Wildcats went up against the Miami Hurricanes.
No. 11 Grier started her season her season in dominating fashion by topping Dancevic 6-3, 6-2.
Prousis kept the ball rolling for Northwestern as she defeated Ana Rupic, 7-5, 6-1.
The Wildcats suffered their first loss when Peisel fell to Patricia Starzyk, 6-2, 6-4.
In Northwestern's final singles match, Esseghir fell to Emily Mowery, 2-6, 6-3, 2-1. In the tie-breaker set, Esseghir defaulted due to injury.
Northwestern will be back in action beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, when the Wildcats take on the Florida Gators in doubles play. The 'Cats face Florida International in singles competition, following the conclusion of doubles action.
