EVANSTON, Ill.-- Northwestern will open the 2005 season this weekend in Kenosha at the UW-Parkside Midwest Open. The 5-kilometer race is slated to begin at noon, and head coach Amy Tush and her squad are anxious to get underway.
"I am really excited about the season," said Tush. "We've had two and a half weeks of solid workouts and we're ready to go. I am excited about our young runners. We have three freshman in top five with the rest of the field is filled out by a sophomore and junior."
Though this year's roster has a new look to it, Tush believes the young squad will sneak up on some opponents.
"I think we're going to surprise a lot of teams," said Tush. "We are young and we're running in races we haven't run before."
A total of 17 Northwestern runners will compete in the 28-team meet.
