EVANSTON, Ill. -- The NCAA released revised Academic Progress Rates (APR) for schools that operate on the quarter system on Tuesday, giving Northwestern an updated figure.
For Northwestern it means a new and improved figure. The previously released figures had the Wildcats with a 980 overall score. The revised score is 986, which ranks second among all NCAA Division I-A schools and leads the Big Ten Conference. Northwestern had previously led all Big Ten schools with its original 980.
APR's were recalculated at schools operating on quarters to ensure that their performance is measured by the same standards as semester schools.
"We were pleased with our original score, but even more encouraged with the latest figures," says Mark Murphy, Northwestern's director of athletics. "We take a great deal of pride of being successful on and off the playing field, and this is just more evidence that we're accomplishing both on a very high level."
Northwestern is coming off its best overall athletic year after finishing 29th in the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup standing, which measures a school's overall athletic performance.
The sport that gained the most from the revision was football, which jumped from a 954 to 971 score.
Among all Division I schools, Northwestern is tied for 10th nationally with its 986 score.
