EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach Claire Pollard has announced that David Mullins will join the Wildcats as an assistant coach for the 2005-06 season. He will begin his duties June 30.
Mullins most recently served as the associate men's tennis coach at DePaul, holding that position since January of 2005.
"It is great to have someone with David's coaching and playing background join our program," Pollard said. "The impact he will have on our team is going to be tremendous."
Mullins came to DePaul after working in his native Ireland as an assistant tennis professional at Donnybrook L.T.C. in Dublin for the last two years. With Donnybrook, he worked with elite junior Irish tennis players and also assisted with the Irish National Team.
With his coaching experience, Mullins has traveled throughout the world with some of Ireland's top professionals and juniors at various I.T.F. and A.T.P. events. As a collegiate player at Fresno State, Mullins was a second-team All-WAC honoree in doubles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament with doubles partner Peter Luczak where the duo earned All-American honors and a final No. 9 national ranking.
Professionally, Mullins was ranked as both a singles and doubles player and is a member of Ireland's Davis Cup team. He has played in Davis Cup competition in each of the last three years representing Ireland against Ukraine, Hungary, Greece, Egypt and Slovenia.
