EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's lacrosse team remains unbeaten heading into the NCAA Championship semifinal round Friday, and the Wildcats have been No. 1 in the poll for eight weeks. With that in mind, it was no surprise to see six NU players receive recognition when the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced its All-Region teams this week.
Sarah Albrecht, Laura Glassanos, Kristen Kjellman, Courtney Koester and Lindsey Munday all received first-team honors in the Mid-Atlantic region, making them eligible for All-America honors. The IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America teams will be announced Sunday in conjunction with the NCAA championship game in Annapolis, Md.
Ashley Koester -- Courtney's twin sister -- was a second-team regional All-America for the second year in a row.
This is the second-straight year that Kjellman and Courtney Koester received first-team regional honors from the IWLCA, while Glassanos and Munday moved up to the first team after receiving second-team honors a year ago. Albrecht's is earning regional recognition from the IWLCA for the first time in her career.
Northwestern is currently in Annapolis, preparing for its NCAA Championship semifinal against Dartmouth Friday night.
