Wildcats Take Five of Seven ITA Midwest Regional Awards

EVANSTON, Ill. - Out of a possible seven Midwest Regional Awards the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) dished out Wednesday, May 11, the Northwestern women's tennis team mopped up five of them.

For the coaching staff, Claire Pollard earned her third-career ITA/Wilson Coach of the Year nod and Leigh Weinraub was tabbed as the region's Assistant Coach of the Year for the first time in her four years with the `Cats. Pollard also earned the Midwest Coach of the Year honor in 2001 and 2003.

The Wildcat players faired well too, as freshman Audra Cohen (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) was named Rookie Player of the Year, sophomore Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) was crowned as the Player to Watch and junior Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) earned the Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award.

"It's great to get all these individual awards, but it's really a testament to how well we've played as a team this year," Pollard said.
