EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and senior Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) have been named Northwestern's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Grevers won Northwestern's first men's swimming national championship since 1958 and the school's first individual NCAA title in any sport since 1999 with his victory in the 100 backstroke Friday at the NCAA Championships. He also finished seventh in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 100 freestyle in addition to swimming with all four NU relays. Grevers finished the Championships with seven All-America honors, bringing his career total to 14.
Led by her school-record 5-under 67 on Sunday, Kim helped Northwestern win the Mountain View Collegiate this past weekend in Tucson, Ariz. Kim finished with school-record 5-under 211 (70-74-67) for a personal-best second place. Her 67 in the third round was one stroke better than the 68 her older sister, Hana, set at the 2001 Big 12 Invitational. Kim's 67 also was a Mountain View Collegiate single-round record.
