EVANSTON, Ill. - After starting the season ranked fifth in the country, the Northwestern women's tennis team continued its steady climb up the national rankings to No. 2 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll released Tuesday, March 22. The No. 2 nod is the highest ranking in the Wildcats' 30-year history.

Coming in at No. 5 back on January 11, the Wildcats (11-1) held the No. 4 spot from February 2 through March 15, moved up to No. 3 last week, and now only the undefeated Stanford Cardinal (12-0) rank ahead of them.

Tuesday's poll is the ITA's first computer-based rankings of the season, and uses a formula that takes a team's entire body of work into consideration. While a voter asks 'what has this team done recently?' the computer ranking determines what a team has done up to that point in the entire season.

Top 10 Teams
1. Stanford - 84.4
2. Northwestern - 82.16
3. Kentucky - 65.74

7. Duke - 58.52
8. Vanderbilt - 57.46
9. Texas - 52.59
10. North Carolina - 52.46
