EVANSTON, Ill. - Junior catcher Pat McMahon (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel) was named Big Ten Player of the Week by the conference office today.

After sitting out last season recovering from Tommy John surgery, McMahon started two of three games in Texas and produced a .500 batting average and an on-base percentage of .571. He also threw out three potential base stealers in the finale against Kansas State. The Illinois native was successful in three of six trips to the plate while adding a walk, but his performance behind the plate was more impressive. With one run already in to tie the score at 1-1 in the second inning, KSU had runners on first and second with no outs. McMahon threw out the player trying to steal third base and after a fly ball, threw out another player trying to steal second base to end the inning. The NU backstop threw out another potential thief the following inning to record three assists in the game.

McMahon leads the team with a .429 average in three starts.

NU is next in action when they travel to Bradenton, Fla., to take part in the IMG Academy Tournament. The Wildcats have two doubleheaders scheduled, taking on St. Mary's (N.Y.) and Northeastern on Saturday and Seton Hall and Maine on Sunday. Both twin-bills will begin at 10 a.m. (EST).
