Tush Signs Garcia to National Letter of Intent

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Amy Tush, head coach of the Northwestern University cross country team, announced the signing of Paulina Garcia (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) to a NCAA National Letter of Intent. Garcia will be eligible to compete for the Wildcats beginning in 2006.

"Paulina will add depth to an already deep group of runners," Tush said. "She also will bring leadership and continuity to our very young and talented team."

Garcia was a 2003 Illinois State Champion and holds the state meet record for the fastest time in the 3K with a time of 16:48. She also is a member of the Elgin Sharks Track Club where she helped the Sharks to a second place finish at the 2003 AAU nationals in Kentucky and a third place finish at the AAU Nationals in Ohio.

High School: Named Streamwood High School's Athlete of the Year ... Four-year letterwinner on both the cross country and track & field teams ... Placed first as a sophomore in the 3K at the Illinois State Cross Country Finals with a record time of 16:48 and was an all-state selection at the IHSA State Track and Field finals, placing sixth in the 3200m with a time of 11:06 ... Seventh at the 2002 State Cross Country finals as a freshman ... Has personal best times of 16:48 in the 3K, 4:45 in the 1500m, 10:51 in the 3200m and 10:30 in the 3000m ... Member of the Elgin Sharks track Club from 2001-04 where she led the Sharks to a second place finish at the 2003 AAU nationals in Kentucky and a third place finish at the AAU Nationals in Ohio. ... An academic all-conference selection as a junior and senior ... Also considered the University of Texas.
