EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University has announced wrestling's Jake Herbert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and women's basketball's Sara Stutz (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) have been named Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Herbert earns the honor after he went a perfect 6-0 this week, including a 5-0 run and 174-pound title at the Reno Tournament of Champions Sunday. On Thursday against Indianapolis, the second-ranked Herbert pinned the Greyhounds' Mike Jackson--who is ranked No. 2 at 174 lbs. in NCAA Division II--in 35 seconds, one of the fastest falls in Northwestern history. Herbert followed that performance by winning his second individual title of the year in Reno. Herbert tallied three falls during the tournament, including a pin against Oklahoma State's 16th-ranked Brandon Mason in the title bout.
Stutz is recognized after she registered two solid performances, helping Northwestern to a 1-1 mark on the week. On the road against Western Michigan, the sophomore tallied a career-high 12 rebounds and added 14 points, good for the first double-double of her career. Stutz hit 5-of-7 from the field, and 3-of-4 from three-point range, tying the Wildcat-high so far this season. She also added a team-high four assists.
