EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern is poised to host Miami (Ohio) in the second game of the 22nd Annual Mildred and Roger White Invitational at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2. The Wildcats and RedHawks get underway following a 5:30 p.m. contest between St. John's and Wake Forest at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The Invitational will continue at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 and will pair the two losing teams from Friday's action. The title game will get underway at 4 p.m.
"We are looking forward to a great weekend of basketball at home," head coach Beth Combs said. "We have three quality teams here this weekend and all games should be exciting to watch."
Last Time Out...
Sophomore Melissa Miller (Bloomington, Minn./The Breck School) led the way in NU's 57-51 road loss to Valparaiso, tallying 10 points and 13 rebounds, good for the first double-double of her career. It is the third time this season that a Wildcat has recorded a double-dip.
Junior A.J. Glasauer (Freiburg, Germany/Theodor-Heuss Gymnasium) was the high scorer for Northwestern with 13 points and she also added nine caroms. Glasauer has now scored in double figures in every game so far this season.
Scouting Miami (Ohio)
"We are excited about our first match up with Miami (Ohio)," Combs said. "They are well coached and very solid in their game. We will have to put together a complete game in order for us to advance to the championship game."
The RedHawks are coming of a 70-60 loss at home to Wright State on Wednesday. Freshman Jeanna Schone has led MU so far this season, averaging 11.8 ppg and 5.5 apg. She is currently the only RedHawk averaging double figures. Against Wright State, Schone contributed a season-high eight assists and a team-high two steals. Ashley Hawkins, Cindi Merrill, and Jaclyn Leininger all reached double-figures against Wright State, averaging 10, 11 and 11 points, respectively. Miami (Ohio) is now 3-2 on the season.
