VALPARAISO, IND. -- Northwestern fell on the road to Valparaiso, 57-51, Wednesday night at the Athletic-Recreation Center. The Wildcats are now 2-2 on the season while the Crusaders are 3-2 in 2005-06.

"We lost to a very good team today," head coach Beth Combs said. "Valpo is a very well-prepared team and they came ready to play."

Sophomore Melissa Miller (Bloomington, Minn./The Breck School) led the way for NU, tallying 10 points and 13 rebounds, good for the first double-double of her career. It is the third time this season that a Wildcat has recorded a double-dip.

Junior A.J. Glasauer (Freiburg, Germany/Theodor-Heuss Gymnasium) was the high scorer for Northwestern with 13 points and she also added nine caroms. Glasauer has now scored in double figures in every game so far this season.

Northwestern led by as many as seven in the first half and shot almost 60 percent from the field heading into the break. The Wildcats also shot 60 percent from the three-point arc in the first stanza.

Valparaiso led most of the second half, but a basket by freshman Julie Bielwaski (Rogers, Ark./Rogers) cut the Crusader lead to three with 4:21 remaining. But that was as close as the Wildcats would get, as the Valpo hit 7-of-9 free throws in the last 2:00 to secure the victory.

Northwestern is next in action at 7:30 on Friday, Dec. 2 as the Wildcats welcome Miami (Ohio) in the second game of the Mildred and Roger White Invitational. Friday is Kid's Club Day at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Kids with a valid Kid's Club membership card get in free.
