The 2005 Halloween HOOP-La held prior to the homecoming football game Saturday, Oct. 29 was a tremendous success. Over 700 students and fans showed up to Welsh-Ryan Arena to show their support for the men's and women's basketball teams as they near the start of the 2005-06 season.
Fans were treated to none other than Northwestern University graduate and co-host of ESPN's Pardon The Interruption, Michael Wilbon, who emceed the event. The Washington Post columnist used his colorful personality to fire up the crowd as the two teams showed off their talents from scrimmaging to shooting contests.
Both head coaches and fan-favorite Michael Jenkins took the microphone and addressed the crowd, giving previews of their teams and thanking the fans for their support of Northwestern basketball.
The men tip off their season Nov. 13-15 at the BCA Invitational in Laramie, Wyo., before opening at home Monday, Nov. 21 against Florida Atlantic. The women host the Chicago Challengers in an exhibition at 7 p.m. next Friday, Nov. 11 before their regular season opener at noon Saturday, Nov. 19 against Creighton.
