EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) won six-straight matches en route to the 2005 Midwest Regional Championships singles title. Prousis beat teammate Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) 7-5, 6-3 in the tournament finale.
Prousis started the match hot, taking the first four games. Grier battled back, however, tying the set at 5-5. Prousis then rallied to take the last two games, winning the set 7-5.
In the second set, Prousis again started out on the right note, taking the first game, then winning three of the last four, to win the match in straight sets.
This is the second-straight year Northwestern has won the ITA Midwest Regional doubles and singles titles.
Prousis and Grier return to action November 3-4 for the ITA National Indoor Championships, hosted by Ohio State.
