EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Herschel Henderson (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake) and Leanne Dumais (Ventura, Calif./Buena) have been named Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Henderson picked off a pair of passes in the end zone to help Northwestern defeat Michigan State 49-14 in East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday. The senior safety tallied five tackles, including a nine-yard tackle for loss, to go along with his two interceptions. Michigan State, the country's third-best offense, was held to its lowest point total (14) of the season. Henderson's two picks came at crucial times, thwarting two Spartan drives in Wildcat territory. Henderson returned his second interception 47 yards, setting up NU's final touchdown of the game.
Dumais set the school record and bested a field of 23 competitors to win the one-meter board Sunday at the UIC Diving Invitational. She then finished second on the three-meter board behind teammate Chelsea Davis, beating out 20 other divers. In Friday's season-opening dual at UW-Milwaukee, Dumais won the three-meter board and finished second to Davis on the one-meter.
