Northwestern Names Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) and Jill Putnam (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield) have been named Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Merkow birdied three of the final four holes at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge last week to come from behind and capture the individual title by one stroke over 2005 NCAA champion James Lepp of Washington. Merkow's career-best 7-under 209 helped Northwestern to the team title by three strokes over Minnesota. The Big Ten defeated the Pac-10 in the event, hosted by NU at The Glen Club in Glenview, Ill.
Putnam scored two goals against Iowa and notched an assist in Sunday's win over Lindenwood. With her two goals at Iowa, Putnam became the nation's leading freshman goal-scorer. Putnam now has 10 goals on the season, while recording three multi-goal matches.
