EVANSTON, Ill. - Coming off a strong seventh-place team showing at the 42nd Midlands Championships, No. 21 Northwestern travels to Ohio State this weekend to participate in the Buckeye Duals. The Wildcats are a perfect 3-0 in dual competition this year.

14 teams will compete in the duals: Tenn-Chattanooga, Drexel, Cleveland State, Buffalo, Kent State, Wyoming, Ohio University, UNC-Greensboro, Clarion, Northwestern, Illinois, Bloomsburg, Northern Illinois and Ohio State University.

NU has received a bye in the first round and will see its first competition of the day against UNC-Greensboro at 12:45 p.m. in round two. The `Cats take on Drexel at 2:30 p.m. in round three and then Buffalo at 4:15 p.m. in round four.

"This is another opportunity for us to get better against quality opponents," Head Coach Tim Cysewski said. "We need to continue to build off the success we've had this year."

The Spartans of UNC-Greensboro are 2-0 in dual matches so far this year and most recently finished eighth out of 23 teams at the 2004 Southern Scuffle. Sophomore Darren Burns claimed the crown at 197 lbs.

The Drexel Dragons are 4-3 in dual competition, most recently defeating Kent State at the Clarion Duals.

The Buffalo Bulls are winless in dual competition this year, currently 0-2, but did post a strong fourth-place finish at the Beast of the East Tournament in mid-December.

The `Cats have defeated their three dual-match opponents -- Northern Illinois, Augustana College and UW-La Crosse -- by an average of 20 points this year.

Redshirt freshman Jake Herbert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), fresh off earning a individual title at the Midlands, has compiled a 7-0 overall record and is 3-0 in dual action. His three dual matches have been nothing but one-sided in his favor, recording two major decision victories and one pin. Following his first-place performance at the Midlands, Herbert has jumped from 18th to seventh in the national rankings at 174 lbs.

Redshirt freshman Ryan Lang (North Royalton, Ohio/Lakewood St. Edward), senior Mike Kimberlin (Bradley, Ill./Bishop Martin McNamara), and junior Matt Delguyd (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) are all a perfect 3-0 in dual matches.

Lang has vaulted into the top-20 in the 141 lb. weight class. He is currently ranked 14th after being unranked last week.

Freshman Mike Tamillow (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) is 2-0 in duals.

Senior John Velez (Kings Mills, Ohio/Kings), currently ranked 14th in the nation at 125 lbs., injured his shoulder at the Midlands Championships and will not compete this weekend.
