EVANSTON, Ill. - Redshirt freshman Jake Herbert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and junior Ifeoma Okonkwo (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak) have been named Northwestern's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.

Herbert captured the Midlands Championship at 174 lbs. Thursday evening by defeating No. 5 seed Mitch Hancock of Central Michigan. The championship victory is the first by an NU undergraduate since Andre Allen won the 142 lb. title in 1974. The victory was the third-consecutive upset for Herbert, seeded No. 7. He dropped No. 2 Pete Friedl of Illinois in the quarterfinal before defeating No. 6 Nick Passolano of Iowa State in the semifinals, 5-2. Herbert's 4-0 record over the two-day tournament helped him improve to a perfect 7-0 on the year.

Okonkwo led Northwestern in scoring with 18 points Thursday at No. 12 Minnesota, notching her fourth consecutive game in double-figures. She then fell just one point shy of a double-double against Wisconsin, scoring nine points to go along with 12 rebounds. Okonkwo has raised her scoring average to 10.6 points per game this season.
