EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the second time this season, women's basketball's Ifeoma Okonkwo (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak) and men's swimming's Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) have been named Northwestern's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Okonkwo picks up her honor after posting a career week. On Thursday at Indiana, Okonkwo registered the Wildcats' first double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 rebounds before dropping a career-best 30 points Sunday against No. 21 Iowa in Iowa City.
She is the seventh Big Ten player to reach the 30-point mark this season. Her single-game total is the best by a 'Cat since Kristina Divjak poured in 35 points on Feb. 27, 1998, against Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament.
Grevers won four events at a two-day, double-dual meet against No. 5 Arizona and Washington in Tucson, Ariz., capturing the 100 free (44.39), the 200 back (1:46.81), the 100 back (48.94) and the 50 free (20.10). After the first day of competition, No. 14 Northwestern held a slim advantage over 'Zona, but the Pac-10 Wildcats came back to defeat the Big Ten 'Cats.
Grevers also was a member of the winning 400 free and 400 medley relay squads for Northwestern.
