EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern resumes competition this weekend by welcoming Wisconsin, Penn State and Illinois-Chicago to the Combe Tennis Center for the Wildcat Duals Friday through Sunday, Jan. 14-16.

The Wildcats were recently named No. 5 in the national rankings according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Jan. 11 Poll. The No. 5 nod is the highest in school history.

Freshman Audra Cohen (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) earned the No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles. Cohen is the first freshman to be ranked No. 1 since Duke's Ansley Cargill on Feb. 12, 2001. She is also the first player to be ranked No. 1 in singles and doubles at same time since Georgia's Agata Cioroch on March 23, 2003 (with Lori Grey).

Grier has earned the No. 4 slot in singles, while sophomore Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) is No. 49. Grier's No. 1 ranking to begin the fall marked the first time a Big Ten player had ever opened up the season atop the rankings.

Wisconsin comes to Evanston after posting a 6-4 Big Ten record in 2004. The Badgers boast a fairly young roster with only three upperclassmen -- two seniors and one junior. One of their seniors, Katie McGaffigan, earned all-Big Ten honors last year and had a strong fall in 2004 by advancing to the semifinals of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. In the semifinals though, she fell to Grier, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

The Nittany Lions are riding the momentum of a dominating performance at the Penn State Classic Nov. 13 where they won all of their singles and doubles matches against Bowling Green and Akron. The Nittany Lions look to improve on an 0-10 mark in conference action last year.

Illinois-Chicago is coming off its eighth-consecutive Horizon League title and sixth-consecutive NCAA berth. The Flames fell to Northwestern 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last year, finishing with a 16-7 overall record.
