EVANSTON, Ill. - To hear NU cross country coach Amy Tush, the Wildcats are easing into the 2004 season Saturday at the Great American Legends race in West Lafayette, Ind.
The women's race, which features NU, Purdue and a few open runners, will be a 4K and starts at noon on the Purdue Varsity Cross Country Course.
"This weekend will be a very low key meet between us and Purdue," she said. "We will not be racing our top six runners, they will rest this weekend in preparation for the meet in Iowa City next weekend."
While she rests her projected front-runners for next Friday's meet -- which will be held on the course that will host the Big Ten Championships on October 31 -- Tush is excited to get started and get some of her women running competitively this weekend.
"This meet will be a great experience for our team," she said. "Purdue is a top-10 team in our region, and so running against another Big Ten school of that caliber will be great for our women to prepare them for the next level. It gives them an opportunity to race against a great team early on."
Wildcats expected to run Saturday:
Jessica Anderson
Morgan Clark-Coller
Lauren Cousert
Julia Fraser
Kalysta Harmon
Lisa Marx
Ashley Roberts
Monika Rymsza
Caroline Speirs
Karen Stene
