EVANSTON, Ill. -- Field hockey goalkeeper Sherri-Anne Nyberg (Kelowna, British Columbia/Kelowna Secondary) and men's soccer defenseman Jaro Pylypczak (Lombard, Ill./Benet Academy) have been named this week's Hilton Garden Inn Athlete's of the Week.
Nyberg, a sophomore, made six saves in 93:06 minutes of work Friday in a 1-0, double-overtime shutout of Iowa---her second shutout of the year. The win was NU's first double-overtime shutout victory since 1985.
On Sunday, Nyberg made 11 saves against the Big Ten's most prolific offensive team, No. 4 Michigan State. NU fell to the Spartans, 2-0, but Nyberg held MSU scoreless for the first 51 minutes of the match. The 11 saves tied the second-highest game total of her career.
Pylypczak, a junior, netted a match-winning golden goal Friday, knocking in a corner kick from teammate Eric Brin in overtime to give Northwestern a 5-4 win over Oral Roberts in the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic. The goal was Pylypczak's first of the season and third of his career.
He also assisted on a pair of goals in the match, doubling his career total. Pylypczak had not scored a point in NU's previous eight matches before tallying four against Oral Roberts.
