Northwestern Bests Eastern Illinois, 2-1, to Win Vanderbilt's Puma Soccer Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Sophomore Brad North (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) scored two goals as Northwestern topped Eastern Illinois, 2-1, Sunday afternoon to finish 1-0-1 in Vanderbilt's Puma Soccer Classic and win the tournament title.
North, named the tournament's MVP, opened the scoring just six seconds before the end of the first half, putting in a cross on assists by Eric Brin (Westlake, Calif./Westlake) and David Roth (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade).
The sophomore's second goal of the match, a header assisted by Brad Napper (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) and Gerardo Alvarez (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) came in the 50th minute to give NU the 2-0 lead.
Eastern Illinois would score in the 78th minute, but the Wildcats were able to hold on for the win. Joining North on the all-tournament team were Napper, Alvarez and Roth.
NU (5-1-1) is now unbeaten in its last five matches.
Northwestern returns to action at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, against Oral Roberts in the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic in Evansville, Ind.
