EVANSTON, Ill. -- Will Nicholas (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) of men's soccer and Carolyn Hack (Downers Grove, Ill./North) of women's soccer have been named Northwestern's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week. Both student-athletes scored match-winning, overtime goals Sunday.

Nicholas, a sophomore, scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime period against DePaul Sunday, clinching Northwestern's 2-1 win in the final game of the Lakeside Classic. He also scored a goal and assisted on the Wildcats' three others in a 4-1 victory over UW-Green Bay Friday.

As a result, Nicholas was named Tournament MVP. After entering the weekend with no points on the season, Nicholas now ranks second on the team with seven. At 4-1, Northwestern is off to the best start in program history.

Hack, a senior, punctuated a superb weekend as the leader of the NU back line by scoring the match-winning goal in overtime against Southeast Missouri State Sunday. Her tally in the sixth minute of extra time gave the Wildcats a 1-0 win and improved them to 4-2 on the season, the best start since the 1998 team began its season 9-0-1.

Hack and the NU defense allowed its two opponents this weekend (Samford and SEMO) a total of just five shots--none of them on goal--and has now shut out three straight opponents, a first since 2001.
